2022-now
Looking down, I look up. Looking out, I look within. Within color, I sense space. Within the square, infinity.
The ethereal world of "Reflections," is an ongoing series of square photos of the sky reflected on colored glass at cemeteries. The color of the glass is chosen at the beginning of the year, and returned to each season. These pieces draw inspiration from visits to the cemetery to explore the energy we can see. Each panel is a portal to the soul, a connection between energy, color, and the sacred spaces that exist.
When installed, the experience is like walking in nature. Moments of light and shape catch your eye. Installations interact with the architecture to break with the standard way of showing art.
Color as Energy: Explore the vibrant hues that represent the energy we can see.
Color & Time: each year 6 colors are chosen, and photos taken during each season off of the colored glass. 2023 had Pantone inspired warm deep pink, Behr inspired warm white, Architecture Digest inspired deep green along with 3 colors chosen by me. 2024 will include the Panton inspired peach which called to adjust the entire series. The Pantone peach is a replica of Crayola Flesh crayon from the 1970s, significant because the US has a white supremist running for president. 2024 will be inspired by skin tones.
Surface & Space: consider the connection of surface and space, echoing the depth of the human experience.
Sky & trees in a cemetery: Discover the sacred connection between souls, captured in the celestial beauty of the sky grounded by a cemetery, a sacred place because of the connection between body and soul.
