HOW I CHOOSE WHAT TO WORK ON

Hello beauties.

I was asked recently how I choose what to work on.

Right now I am working on the MADE THE USA series, and it will take me over a year to complete.

I have a lot of ideas and get excited about many projects.

The projects I explore are the ones that just by starting, I am proud of. Artists don’t know how the work ends up. That’s the fun of starting with an idea and a material, letting go and making art.

Not everything works. The big projects, those are the ones that if I die having never finished, I am proud to have started.

GIFTING AN ARTIST GRANT GOES A LONG WAY

I got awarded a grant from my county arts council. The money is to be used to hire makers to figure out the math problem.

Its for a project I was stuck on. I had kinda let go of the entire idea because I got stuck and moved on.

Getting a gift to work out an idea is validating.

Getting a gift to work out an idea helps get an idea out of the rough spots and back into the studio

Getting a gift to work out an idea helps me think bigger.

Gifting an artist can lead to dreams being made reality.

Gifting an artist helps an artist be an artist.

Thank you Arts Council of Rockland.

x in stone

Thank you google screen saver screen. This came up as a screen saver on my computer. It is a Xunantunich, a Mayan ceremonial center located atop a ridge above the Mopan River in Belize. Do you see the cross stiches carved in stone?

What really caught my eye is that there is a rule in cross stitch that the top stitch be always the same way. For me I always do top left to bottom right as the top stitch. In the facade, the stitches flip. Interesting that this was named in honor of a woman…

A closer look at the cross stitch pattern carved into the facade.
